In Jimmy Santiago Baca’s A Spot to Stand, he gives an autobiographical profile of his childhood and eventual incarceration in prison. Baca creates the trip from illiterate youth using violence to endure the severe realities of prison lifestyle, to a poet with a feeling of purpose in lifestyle.
